All The TV Shows To Binge Watch For The Design Lover In You

As you bask in the winter sun, there’s nothing like cosying up and tuning into a good TV show. This last season, we saw some of the best shows for design inspiration return. There are also a handful of new productions that promise idyllic settings to up the ante. Whether it’s making you crave your next summer vacation or take inspiration from the sprawling period mansions, mark your calendars, set reminders and begin streaming the ones that are out now.

The Buccaneers

From period mansions to sun-drenched villas, these TV shows are serving major interior and travel inspiration this season.

Period drama enthusiasts, rejoice! Set in 1870, the Apple TV+ series follows a group of American women who have immersed themselves in England’s high society. One of the main settings in The Buccaneers is Tintagel Castle, a real-life English castle in its current state of ruin on the clifftops of North Cornwall. That castle is depicted in several places throughout the series. Culzean Castle, enhanced by a little CGI magic, portrays the building’s seaside exterior. But the interiors of Tintagel Castle? They were all filmed at Hopetoun House, a stately home near South Queensferry owned by the Hopetoun House Preservation Trust, a charity established in 1974 to preserve the house and grounds as a national monument.

And Just Like That…

Discover the most stunning filming locations and design backdrops from The Buccaneers, And Just Like That…, Palm Royale, and Emily in Paris.

Yes, Carrie has left her famous alcove studio behind, setting in an enormous mansion at 8 Gramercy Park West, just across the street from New York’s prettiest and most exclusive little park (in real life, this is the address of an apartment building, and in a vaguely egalitarian twist, one of the only two buildings that grant residents keys to the gated park itself). She bought the place in the hopes that longtime on-again, off-again love Aidan Shaw would live there with her and his three terrifying sons, only for him to put the relationship on ice to focus on caring for his 14-year-old down on the family farm in Virginia. Actor Jown Corbett is six feet and five inches tall, but he is still dwarfed by the Gramercy place’s impressive doors, at least when he manages to get there. As far as life decisions go, this was not one of Carrie’s finest.

Palm Royale

These binge-worthy series double as a masterclass in historic architecture, luxury estates, and cinematic interiors.

The show revolves around the messy inner workings of high society in Palm Beach, Florida, circa 1969. Apart from it being a star-studded show featuring Kristin Wiig, Laura Dern, and Carol Burnett, it’s the private clubs, grand estates, and the backdrops that solidify the show as a must-watch. Our heart is on Villa Coxxy, which plays the infamous Dellacorte Mansion, which was designed by architect Reginald D. Johnson and modelled after Florentine palaces. With a can’t-miss coral exterior hugged by delicate vines, the structure beckons onlookers inside. The foyer sets the tone for the interiors with black-and-white checkered flooring and a charming staircase. Furniture and art mixed from the Renaissance and Baroque periods, mixed with other one-of-a-kind pieces, are dispersed throughout. On the property, there are also vast gardens, a pool, and a jacuzzi. But this is just one of the many mansions in the show.
